Sysadmin Day

Besides hundreds of official religious or secular holidays existing in literally every country on Earth there are probably even more of the unofficial ones that are invented and supported by large number of people because there is no governmental support of such holidays or simply because of their unusual and exciting nature, for example the Bicycle Day, the Day of the Towel, the Day of Laughter, the Day of Bisexuality, the Day of Hugs etc. In addition, there are also many professional holidays not celebrated on the level of a whole country but recognized as holidays within specific sectors of the economy, for example the Day of Medical Workers, the Day of Social Workers etc. One of such professional holidays is the System Administrator Appreciation Day, also known as the Sysadmin Day, or simply SAAD. It was invented by the system administrator Ted Kekatos from Chicago. One day he was suddenly inspired by a picture in a newspaper advertisement where a sysadmin was depicted receiving flowers and gifts from grateful co-workers. Since then the idea to celebrate this professional holiday was supported by millions of system administrators around the globe. In fact, due to the novelty of this profession there is an objective need for such people to have a professional holiday, as they feel responsible for millions of computers, millions of computer servers and thousands of computer networks. Roughly speaking, the work performed by system administrators is just as important for the global economy, as the work of doctors and pharmacists for the human health.
